Las Vegas is in the southeast tip of Nevada, close to California and Arizona. Readily accessible by air and highway, it is a premier tourist destination. Over a million in population, it is the fastest growing city in the US. The town's reputation is built on gambling but entertainment, food, golf and shopping are part of the picture too. The climate is warm and dry, averaging 212 sunny days and only 4.2 inches of rain a year.
The big show in Las Vegas is the strip. The action runs 24 hours a day but the best time to see the neon and glitter is after dark. There is a hotel or casino for every taste. There's plenty for non-gamblers too, including malls, shops, a water park and museums. The nearby towns of Laughlin, Jean, Primm, Henderson and Mesquite offer less expensive accommodations. Other area attractions include Lake Mead, Hoover Dam and Bonnie Springs.
